“There is no justification for the reaction of the Russian peacekeepers to the created situation either”. “Areresum”

April 10,2023 13:33

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation recorded this in an official message. “2023 On March 25, the units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, violating 2020, the first point of the tripartite declaration of November 9, crossed the contact line and occupied the 2054 height in the Shushi region and started engineering works. The Azerbaijani side was presented with a demand to fulfill the provisions of the tripartite declaration, to stop the engineering works, and to return the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to their original positions. Two weeks have passed since this report, but all the demands still need to be fulfilled.

In response to the recording that the Russian peacekeepers are unable to solve the problem, Beniamin Matevosyan, a guest of Aravot’s “Areresum” (“Confrontation”) program, a political scientist from the “Polytekonomy” research institute, said: “What happened in the village of Tegh, the Goris-Kapan road section, the blockade of the Lachin Corridor in Artsakh, and those actions that you mentioned are taking place based on political issues. When you went to Prague and Washington in 2022 and negotiated in September and October, and as a result of those negotiations, you recognized Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Artsakh; you re-edited the document of November 9. Whether it’s the document of our dreams or not, there are some essential highlights for us. The troops should remain where the war was suspended.

The Lachin Corridor had an uncertain status, but it was important that Azerbaijan guaranteed the uninterrupted operation of the corridor, and the Russians had to stand there. There was also no question about the status of Artsakh. Along with this, there was also a clause regarding the return of captives. In other words, the November 9 document captured the realities on the ground. As a result of further negotiations, we had various opportunities to implement the provisions in the paper or to ensure some development. But we saw that the authorities of Armenia chose the following direction: they tried to implement the tripartite agreement between Moscow, Baku, and Yerevan in the West. That is total nonsense.”

To the observation that this experiment was carried out when it became clear that the peacekeepers were not fully fulfilling their mission, Beniamin Matevosyan responded: “There should be a detailed discussion about all the cases, and we need to understand how it turned out that way.” However, he emphasized again. “When you re-edited the document of November 9, by which you recognized Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Artsakh, it is logical that Azerbaijan will close the Lachin Corridor and try to advance in the area as much as possible.”

From the height of 2054, the Azerbaijani side directly observed the dirt road connecting Stepanakert, Hin Shen, Mets Shen, and several other villages. Took dominant positions from where both defense and attack were easier to organize. Armen Minasyan, President of “The Armenian Historical and Geographical Union” and Director of “Profile Media,” suggested considering all this. “Azerbaijan closed the corridor, and it was obvious that with a political agenda. Naturally, there is no excuse for that. There is no justification for the reaction of the Russian peacekeepers to the created situation either. But in the end, we have to solve our problems. What did the Armenian side do: official Yerevan or Stepanakert? How did they respond to the situation? Sorry, but the Armenian side reacted to the case with “dexterity” In other words, the closed section remained closed; they started using the bypass dirt road and forced Azerbaijan to take the following action. According to my information, Azerbaijan is even ready to leave the 2054 height because they have wholly mined the dirt road, so it is impossible to use it. : In other words, Baku has a political agenda; it says: I capitulated, I used force, you will come, you will sit with my schedule, we will agree. Don’t you go if you turn to some rural “dexterities” there is an answer for it? The answer is that the next time, the Azerbaijani ambulance will not go to Stepanakert but to Aghdam.”

After this ominous prediction, which has had grounds since April 4, they tried to transfer Armenian women to Shushi by Azerbaijani ambulance, Armen Minasyan suggested. “Let’s look in the mirror; whom to blame?”
