In its pre-election program for 2021, Civil Contract wrote about the peaceful de-occupation of Shushi and Hadrut, the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh, and “secession for the sake of salvation.” During the following two years, the authorities’ position changed by 180 degrees, and today, there are official theses strongly contradicting self-determination, de-occupation, and secession. Is this how Civil Contract cheated its voters?
A few months ago, when the issue was being discussed in the National Assembly, Nikol Pashinyan said that he did not cheat because most of the voters did not even read those promises and did not vote for Civil Contract because of those promises.
I agree entirely with the Prime Minister on that issue. The voter of the Civil Contract has not even read any program, and the problems concerning Artsakh are not of interest to him at all. He saw the hammer in Pashinyan’s hand, heard about the “steel mandate,” and was excited by the slogan “End Velvet.” Under the influence of that propaganda, he was convinced that the feelings of hatred and revenge would continue to be satisfied and chose the political force that would satisfy those instincts.
I remind you of that history because even now, those citizens do not see that the policy of the power they chose is leading to a new war. Demonstration steps against Russia and, by the way, also against Iran (for example, the Armenian-American military exercises) without explicit security guarantees from the American side – this is precisely the kind of adventure that brings the war, the attack of the enemy, closer.

But the Civil Contract electorate does not see it. The electorate sees that the Civil Contract members speak “bravely” against the Russians, and these conversations flatter his ears.
In the Facebook reality where these people live, it is respectable to “shut down one’ mouth” and “degrade someone.” (Put the belly in place). Pashinyan and his team use the tricks that are successfully “sold” in the domestic market. Working in foreign policy in that “cockerel” style is absurd. But the masses don’t care about that.
