Culture as a means of anti-Armenian propaganda

October 18,2024 16:32

By the order of Azerbaijani authorities, various exhibitions and events are regularly organized around the world to promote the false narrative of “Western Azerbaijan”. One such event was recently held in the capital of Poland.

The latest event, titled “Western Azerbaijan in Our Memories,” was held in Warsaw. During this exhibition, Ulviyya Zulfigar, a spokesperson for the “Western Azerbaijan” community, met with Przemysław Witek, head of the Polish-Azerbaijani Parliamentary Group. Zulfigar presented claims about the “forced displacement of Western Azerbaijanis in the 20th century” and the “destruction of the rich heritage of Azerbaijanis in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.” According to her, “Western Azerbaijanis,” who were “forcibly removed from their ancestral lands, yearn for their homeland and have the right, under international law, to return.”

This narrative of “Western Azerbaijan” has been actively promoted by Azerbaijani authorities, particularly after the recent Nagorno-Karabakh war.

It is perplexing that the Polish representative, who emphasized the “importance of realizing the right of return as a principle of international law,” did not mention the massacres of Armenians in Azerbaijan or the forced displacement of indigenous Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Geghard Foundation strongly condemns the policies of the Azerbaijani authorities, the promotion of the false thesis of “Western Azerbaijan”, and calls on the international community to refrain from contributing in any way to the expansionist policies of the Aliyev regime.
