Vahan Kostanyan Stressed the Importance of Regional Connectivity and Strengthening International Partnerships at High-Level EU Event

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan participated in the high-level event dedicated to the launch of the EU initiated Connectivity Agenda Platform, which was attended by the delegations of Armenia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as representatives of international financial institutions and the European Commission.

The platform was created with the aim of strengthening connectivity between the South Caucasus, the Black Sea region, Türkiye and the countries of Central Asia, while advancing the interregional connectivity agenda within the framework of the EU Global Gateway Strategy.
Within the framework of the event Deputy Minister Vahan Kostanyan participated as a speaker at a panel entitled “Future Perspectives of the TCTC in the Black Sea and South Caucasus Regions: Towards 2030”, which was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Vice President of the World Bank, as well as Director of Eastern Neighborhood and Türkiye of the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood of the European Commission and Deputy Director-General of for Mobility and Transport.

In his statement, Deputy Minister Vahan Kostanyan stressed the importance of developing regional connectivity and strengthening international partnership, noting that initiatives in this direction can contribute to the full implementation of the potential of the South Caucasus as an important hub connecting Europe and Asia. In that context he emphasized the importance of further advancing Armenia-EU partnership, particularly in the areas of transport, energy and digital connectivity.

Referring to the development of regional communications, the Deputy Minister presented the initiative of the Armenian Government “Crossroads of Peace”. He reaffirmed the commitment of Armenia to establishing sustainable peace in the region noting that inclusive connectivity contributes to regional cooperation, economic development and strengthening trust.

At the end of the event a statement of intent and a letter of acknowledgment were signed between Armenia and the European Commission, as well as the EBRD and EIB, respectively, on the preparation of feasibility studies for the construction of three border checkpoints and two Northern routes in Armenia.
