A delegation from Matenadaran, headed by Director Ara Khzmalyan, is currently on a working visit to the Republic of Lebanon. The delegation includes Vahé Torosyan, Deputy Director for Research; Gurgen Gasparyan, Advisor to the Director; and Susanna Baghdasaryan and Chinar Mkrtchyan, Senior Conservators of Matenadaran’s Restoration Department.
As part of the visit, the delegation met with His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia. His Holiness welcomed the delegation, expressing his appreciation and extending his blessings for the work and reforms being carried out at Matenadaran. The Catholicos highly commended the significance of Matenadaran’s mission and, as a token of gratitude, presented the delegation with one of the rare facsimile editions of the Bardzraberd Gospel.

During the meeting, a manuscript amulet from the collection of the Armenian Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, restored at Matenadaran, was also presented to His Holiness. It should be recalled that several months earlier, the 10th-century Sasuntsi Gospel, also restored at Matenadaran, had been returned to the Catholicosate.
The first phase of the conservation assessment conducted by Matenadaran’s specialists will continue until October 25. During this period, the specialists will examine the condition of the manuscripts, focusing particularly on physical damage, fungal contamination, and other issues affecting their preservation.
