“The National Assembly Acted in Accordance With the Law,” Sharmazanov’s Response to Pashinyan (Recording)

March 26,2012 15:25

Nikol Pashinyan, the editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper, wrote a letter to National Assembly Speaker Samvel Nikoyan this morning, demanding to explain why MP Samvel Alexanyan’s absences from the votes during the sessions of the 4th convocation of the National Assembly hadn’t been found ungrounded. Mr. Pashinyan wrote in a letter that according to the rules of procedure of the National Assembly, S. Alexanyan should have been unseated for the absences 10 times already. If he has not been unseated, then either he has not been capable of working for the past 5 years or the National Assembly has considered the absence as grounded. N. Pashinyan is convinced that while examining the matter, elements of corruption will be revealed, which he is ready to take action on within his commission, according to the law.

“Not only the case of  Samvel Alexanyan among those MPs, who have been absent from the National Assembly work more than provided for by the law, is significant, because the public should get a clear explanation why those MPs have not been unseated, according to the law. If those people suffer from chronic diseases, which should be treated for 5 years, the public, the population of the given electoral district should be informed that people nominated as candidates for MP cannot fulfill the obligations of a National Assembly MP because of their health condition,” added N. Pashinyan.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov told www.aravot.am that they hadn’t received that letter yet, “Since Mr. Nikoyan is not here, they called me and said that Mr. Pashinyan had sent such an open letter. The most important thing is that the National Assembly will answer Mr. Pashinyan’s letter, according to the law. In any case, the National Assembly has operated in accordance with the law.”
