Ruben Hakobyan, the Heritage Party candidate nominated in no. 9 electoral district for majoritarian representation, told during a conversation with www.aravot.am today what conversation he had had with residents of Noragyugh during the meeting yesterday. When we inquired whether his rating among the residents of Noragyugh was high, Mr. Hakobyan responded, “No, frankly speaking, it is a bit different there, they vote for kin – aunt, uncle, father-in-law – who works better, let’s say, our candidate is good, if I say bring 25m of asphalt
tomorrow, a candidate will bring and pave it tomorrow at once. He will not pave 30, because the owner of those 5m is not the one who will vote for him. I don’t know, it is like this there, both in Noragyugh and Kilikia.”
In response to our question whether he had done anything for the residents of Noragyugh to be elected, what he had promised, Mr. Hakobyan said, “I went yesterday, they asked what I had brought. I said if they voted and I became an MP, I would adopt such and such laws. An old man said ‘No, son, what have you brought “exactly,” for example, this candidate has paved this much asphalt, given this much, has promised that he will give this much and what about you?’ I said ‘Dear sir, I talk about laws,’ he says, ‘Son, you will not get votes from here.’ That was our last conversation.” In the end, Mr. Hakobyan embraced the old man who had material expectations and convinced that this was the right path, but it is uncertain whether the hug or asphalt will prevail.
According to Ruben Hakobyan, “Noragyugh is like a godforsaken place. The people think as if the MP should necessarily come, bring 20m of asphalt and they say bravo to that MP. They perceive the MP’s activities in that area. I think that one can do many things there under the law, one should just explain to the residents that if some people come 5 days before the election and give some 10 thousand AMD, hand out 25m of asphalt, they must abandon that mentality. The one who preaches doing something, he should do that. Otherwise, if you remain in that area and on that level, it will be hard to help you.”
