Wilfried Martens, the European People’s Party (EPP) leader, has sent a letter of congratulations to RPA leader Serzh Sargsyan on the occasion of excellent victory in the election. In this regard, www.aravot.am asked for a comment from Armen Ashotyan, the Minister of Education and Science and the RPA deputy chairman, today. In his words, “Wilfried Martens’s congratulations showed on one hand that the European political brass and the European political institutions are satisfied with the quality of the election held, they reasserted the willingness to work with Armenia on continuing the reforms. On the other hand, those congratulations are also the logical continuation of his letter addressing the forum of the Republican Party, in which the
respective political assessments were organically connected also with the Armenian political agenda.”
As it is known, the Heritage Party, along with the RPA, is also an observer member of the EPP, therefore, in response to our question whether they saw the Heritage Party in their coalition or not, Mr. Ashotyan said, “It is not a secret that one of the key grounds for forming a coalition will be endorsing the Republican Party candidate in the upcoming presidential election. If the Heritage Party adopts such a political platform and expresses willingness to endorse Serzh Sargsyan in the upcoming presidential election, I think the prospects of cooperation between them and us will expand.”
