June 06,2012 12:34

“If she praises an election rigged to that extent, it means that Ms. Clinton has gotten from the Armenian government what she expected,” Lyudmila Sargsyan, the leader of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP) and a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), responding to a question of www.aravot.am how she would comment on the fact that during her meetings in Armenia in the framework of her visit to the region, the US Secretary of State had voiced positive assessments of the parliamentary election that had taken place on May 6 in our country. Let us remind that during the joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduard Nalbandyan, US Secretary of State Hillary

Clinton said in regard to the parliamentary election that had taken place in Armenia, “We are pleased to see Armenia continuing to work to strengthen your democratic institutions to promote transparency, advance the rights of a free press, root out corruption, respect universal rights and freedoms. I was very pleased at the reports from international monitors about Armenia’s parliamentary elections last month being generally competitive and inclusive, where candidates were able to campaign for the most part without interference. There were some electoral problems that were identified, and we hope that Armenia will work with the OSCE and others to ensure that the next election is even better.”

As for what the USA got from Armenia, in particular, Ms. Sargsyan, referring to her fellow party member Gurgen Yeghiazaryan’s statements, says that it was about ceding a part of the liberated territories.
