There Were No Made up Story, Movie Critic Raffi Movsisyan Says About the Golden Apricot Movies

July 16,2012 16:30

Movie critic Raffi Movsisyan has supervised the Armenian Panorama competition program of the Golden Apricot international movie festival and thinks that it was rather strong, particularly given the fact that 28 movies out of 70 have been selected. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Movsisyan said that he respected the decision of the jury, but as a movie critic he had his own movie preferences, “The competition program of the Golden Apricot was rather strong, in my opinion, in the documentary movies nomination all movies that I had liked got awards, as for the international competition program, I would like very much to see Vasili Sigarev’s Living among the winners.”

The movie critic thinks that it was a brilliant discovery for him and says that it has more than come up to expectations, “Unfortunately, it didn’t get any award, on the other hand, the jury chairman was world-famous Victor Erice who has a good idea of movies. I liked Loznitsa’s In the Fog too. Generally, I know all his movies. The movie that won the Apricot Stone nomination was an interesting movie too, the program of short movies was also strong.”

Raffi Movsisyan doesn’t “share” the opinion of some of his colleagues that there was a tendency toward darkness in the international cinematography. “I have had a few arguments on this subject – for example, I was rather depressed after Sigarev’s movie how dark it was, but the context of both that and the other movies was exciting. At the end of the day, they are not imagined or made up stories, in order that we say ‘why do you fill our minds with such things’ – there is cruelty and violence in our reality. Perhaps, it was not talked about at the time and now it is talked about, nonetheless, if there is a problem, it is obvious, why shouldn’t one talk about it…?”
