Did Judge Gagik Poghosyan Offend the Citizens?

July 21,2012 13:41

Armenian National Congress (ANC) activist Sargis Gevorgyan who has been convicted to 2 years in prison is convinced that Gagik Poghosyan, a judge of the trial court of the Kentron and Nork Marash administrative districts, offended the Armenian citizens by bringing in such a verdict. “The cynicism expressed by the judge and the prosecutor at this case is worrisome, they were relatively free and could have changed that cynical attitude for pitiful faces, but the judge and the prosecutor offended the Armenian citizens, moreover, with indifferent faces,” S. Gevorgyan said to www.aravot.am. He noticed intent in the verdict brought in by Judge G. Poghosyan, “He chose a stricter punishment for Davit Kiramijyan, than the prosecutor had demanded. So the judge got even or revenged its superior, the government.”

Let us remind that prosecutor Hakob Martirosyan filed a motion to convict Kiramijyan to 2 years in prison, but the judge decided on 3 years.

In S. Gevorgyan’s words, they don’t pin hopes on achieving justice in the court of appeals or the Supreme Court either, “We don’t have particular expectations, because the government and the regime dictate everyone, one cannot expect justice from individual courts.”
