According to Petros Makeyan, the leader of the Democratic Motherland Party and a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), the ANC parliamentary group behaved quite correctly today boycotting the vote on the application filed by the attorney to withdraw former Minister of Foreign Affairs Vartan Oskanian’s immunity.
“Vartan Oskanian is no plaster saint; he played the biggest part in the events of March 1. If what was made public is accurate, Oskanian deserves a harsher punishment. However, the theatrical play staged by the establishment; if the ANC and other forces participated in that
process, they would have played into their hands. Vartan Oskanian must be punished for his attitude during the events of March 1, more so, if there was misappropriation, but at this moment, when given the circumstances clan face-offs take place among the Establishment, the ANC made the right decision,” Mr. Makeyan said to www.aravot.am.
According to him, at first sight, one could conclude that the ANC and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) cooperated on this issue, but, “I as a member of the ANC who doesn’t accept the PAP at all, because on March 6, they did what the Republicans did, think that this approach was right.” In response to our question why ANC parliamentary group member Nikol Pashinyan had said in advance that he would vote in favor of the application, but had boycotted, Mr. Makeyan said, “I am aware of Pashinyan’s opinion, we confided to each other at a certain moment that Vartan Oskanian deserved all that, but at that particular moment, when the rules of the game were changing and it turned out that if they voted, they would play in the establishment’s hands, the right decision was to boycott. There is no issue of negotiating or not negotiating with the PAP.”
