“I Don’t Write Status Updates on Facebook as the Heritage Party Press Secretary,” Hovsep Khurshudyan Says

May 28,2013 11:14

Hovsep Khurshudyan, the press secretary of the Heritage Party, wrote a status update regarding the church built by Gagik Tsarukyan: “How much money was spent to build that church in Abovyan? 60 million dollars. As far as I know, $2-3 million would have been more than enough to renovate-restore our ancient churches. And the rest of the money could have been easily used to buy two Smerch systems with all their components to curb Baku’s aggressive aspirations. However, our oligarchs have gone to Monte Carlo so many times that it seems to them that Armenia is like Monte Carlo, a safe country without problems. In the past, they would also build churches and khachkars instead of strongholds; in the end, the

enemy took all that away. Well, one needs elementary literacy to learn lessons, one should be aware of one’s history….” www.aravot.am inquired of Hovsep Khurshudyan whether there was no contradiction, taking into account the fact that the Heritage Party leader, Raffi Hovhannisyan, was a very religious man, he attached much importance to the Church. He replied that he considered Facebook to be a non-public domain, and that he wrote not as the Heritage Party press secretary, he just expressed his personal opinion. “I stated that that sum would be sufficient for not just one, but several churches, and I think they should have spent the rest of the money on our defense, from the perspective of security. This is a crucial moment; there are types of weapons that we don’t have enough money to buy. It is unacceptable, when Azerbaijan has weapons of this category, the Smerch system, and we don’t have a counterbalance to that. Symmetry is not maintained, and it leads to disruption of the balance. As a result, if the military balance is disrupted, you understand what consequences there can be.”
