Yesterday, unprecedented security measures were implemented at the bay of Baku; the Azeri warships were involved in the security provision process. With regard to Putin’s arrival, strict security measures were also taken in the central streets of Baku. A number of streets were completely closed.

Until then, detachment consisting of two warships of the Russian Caspian fleet, headed by Vice Admiral Sergey Alekminsky, yesterday, has already reached the Baku bay. Russian “Dagestan” rocket ship and “Volgodonsk” corvette entered the port of Baku, which was held within the framework of strengthening cooperation of naval forces between Azerbaijan and Russia in the Caspian Sea.

Yesterday, after the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin, his one-on-one meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev launched, then negotiations were continued with an extended staff. As we had informed yesterday, Putin was accompanied by an impressive governmental delegation, the ministers of foreign affairs and defense.

In result of yesterday’s negotiations, a number of intergovernmental bilateral documents were signed, and then President Putin’s and Aliev’s joint press conference took place.

During the meeting with Aliev, Putin expressed satisfaction with the growth rate of commodity circulation between the two countries. “The relations between our countries are developing successfully, despite the difficult situation in the global economy. Last year, the growth of commodity circulation was about 47 percent. It was one of records for us. Russia remains one of the leaders in trade and economic relationship with Azerbaijan, it is in the second place, and trade circulation is growing. Ties between the two countries are developing in many directions, they are diverse in nature.”

Aliyev, in his turn, has expressed confidence that Putin’s visit will give additional impetus to relations between the two countries. He noted that his colleague’s visit is of great significance, and then he highlighted that a wide range of issues of mutual interest was discussed at the meeting. “The agenda of our relationship is a broad, the cooperation is comprehensive and covers practically all areas: economic cooperation, humanitarian sector, transport, regional security issues. We have very close positions on all issues,”- said Aliyev.

Azerbaijani ANS PRESS, referring to ITAR-TASS, cited Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, who stressed that the volume of military-technical cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is 4 billion dollars. “Currently, the volume military-technical cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is 4 billion dollars, and it has tendency to expand,” – said Aliyev emphasizing that Azerbaijan is one of Russia’s military-technical major buyers.

The head of Russian Rosneft Igor Sechin and the head of Azerbaijani SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev signed an agreement on terms of cooperation and oil supply. After signing the agreement, Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak told the reporters that the matter is about mutual supply of oil. Sechin visited Azerbaijan in July, and met with President Aliyev and the President of SOCAR, and after the meeting Abdullayev announced that SOCAR is interested in cooperation with Rosneft.

According to mass media information, in the evening, Putin should leave Baku for Gabala resort. Here, a special house for receptions was built for high-ranking guests, where the Russian-Azerbaijani negotiations should be continued today.
