The former President of the National Commission on Television and Radio (NCTR), Grigor Amalyan, who was participating in the public discussion held in “Ani Plaza” regarding the recommendations presented by international and local observation organizations conducting observation mission during the last parliamentary and presidential elections, talked about the problems with the media.
The CEC Chairman, Tigran Mukuchyan, told Grigor Amalyan that the observers had come up with a recommendation to place a caption in broadcasting campaign materials that given material is a campaign. In addition, pursuant to the recommendations presented by observation missions, the public media should ensure that women are not presented less in their coverage, and, according to them, to promote women’s political participation, special measures may be temporarily taken, for example, to provide more airtime to women candidates, to require from the political parties to introduce women candidates for the interviews, and to air programs on the topic “Women in politics”. As for NCTR, it can conduct a gender analysis within its observation framework.
