On February 3-7, the petition launched in Kapan in support of freedom of Shant Harutyunyan and other political prisoners was participated by 1538 Kapa residents expressing against over the actions performed with political prisoners. With the results of the petition, the initiators intend to apply to the international organizations and a number of NGOs, which have recognized Shant Harutyunyan and other guys as political prisoners. “I do not think that by turning to the government will change something, because I do not trust neither the government, nor the judicial system.

For example, the Constitutional Court’s decision on mandatory funded system is ignored, withdrawal is conducted from all wages,” expressed his personal opinion Gevorg Gasparyan, member of the initiative group organizing the petition. According to our interlocutor, the petition proceeded without obstacles, and citizens were actively involved and were expressing their support in helping the political prisoners. “Our goal was to give a public sonority to this phenomenon, to inform people that there is a problem and the same thing may happen to each of us. We demand to release Shant Harutyunyan, who has his contribution to the defense of the borders of our country during the war, as well as other fellow citizens: Alek Poghosyan and Armen Hovhannisyan. The latter’s wife, Shogher Hakobyan, was among the organizers of the petition,” added Gevorg Gasparyan. The organizers in general are pleased with activeness and caring attitude of Kapan residents, and intend to deliver their demand to the end.
