“Regime”, “rebels”, “terrorists”, and “separatists”

July 10,2014 16:12

Each one, depending on its interests, names the same thing in different ways

The political forces, various government and non-government organizations have their own propaganda “clichés” that are used by trying to humiliate the opponent, the opponent and the so-called to “show its true face.” For instances, over 22 years, the opposition is calling the government of Armenia a “regime”, “criminal gang”, “kleptocracy”, a “power-seized junta”, but “people” to itself. In fact, those once were “regime”, today, are using the same characterization to their opponents. The government also has its own clichés, “populists”, “profiteers”, “players into the hands of the enemy” and so on. It is the same in the international arena. I remember, in the mid-90s up to the moment when Georgia lost its control over Sukhumi, the country’s authorities were calling their opponents “Ardzinba Gudauta grouping”. Ostensibly, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, their armed forced will destroy the armed and illegal groups sitting in Gudauta, and everything will fall into their places. The events, as we know, were developed in totally different direction. In Chechnya, for the same period, according to the Russian official propaganda, there were “bandit groups”, which should be “cleaned up» in the republic. Now also, sometimes, Russia does things in the North Caucasus that are called “terrorist actions”, during which, as I understand, no pilaf is distributed. But in Chechnya, Ingushetia, and Dagestan, these groupings, naturally, do not consider them “bandit”, their “emirs” are fighting to create an Islamic “caliphate”. And, Russia, in their opinion, was carrying out a “genocide of the Chechen people.” There are also “caliphate” supporters in Iraq and Syria, who have tanks, heavy artillery and even, they say, “Skad” type rockets (it is not clear whether operating or not), and currently they occupy new territories and towns. From the United States’ point of view, these groupings are “rebels” in the event for Syria, who are fighting “against Assad’s despotic regime”, while in the case of Iraq, they are extreme “islamists” who want to overthrow the legitimate government of Iraq and disrupt Iraq. The Ukrainian authorities have also stated that they are exercising “anti-terrorist operations”. Russia likes its own “anti-terrorist operations”, but not Ukraine’s. According to Russia, local there banderas and other extremist nationalists, enjoying the United States’ patronage, bomb and fire Malorossiya cities and destroy the peaceful civilians. But, the Kiev authorities, of course, do not think so. They are sure that they are destroying the “separatist terrorists”, whom Russia arms and prepares. As you can see, under the same circumstances, people, political forces and the state are naming the same thing differently, one can say, in diametrically opposite way. The question of “whose side is the truth” is, of course, scholasticism. When a story of one drop of honey is entering a phase of military operations, it is impossible to decide the case. In fact, the truth is that wars are continued around the world, people are killed, including peaceful civilians, and everyone should find strength in them to cease this massacre. As for the domestic political “conflicts”, then the parties need to come to mind and understand that there cannot be a “zero-sum game” when one destroys the other.
