Peter Switalski.  “Many elements of the future Armenia-EU Association Agreement have been already agreed upon”

December 07,2016 13:32

The next round of the Armenia-EU new Association agreement will be held in Brussels, on December 9.  This was told to Aravot.am by the Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Peter Switalski who had attended the meeting with the graduates of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry Diplomatic School.  Recall that the talks resumed last year in the framework of the EU-RA Association Agreement.  To the question of Aravot.am that given the fact that in the past the EU was negotiating with Armenia on an Association Agreement but Armenia’s authorities preferred to access the Eurasian Economic Union, so whether the Ambassador does not think that this time too there will be problems associated with the signing of the agreement, Mr. Svitalski noted, “We are conducting good negotiations and have recorded a great progress.”

According to the Ambassador, the negotiations are constructive but there are still open questions, “As for where we are in the negotiations, I can tell you after the coming month.  We are optimistic about the outcome of the talks.  When the agreement will be signed, let’s talk about it next month, then it will be clear.  I remember that Minister Nalbandyan in response to this question noted that there will be still a need for the second round of the negotiations.  But based on these negotiations, I can say that many elements of the upcoming agreement had been agreed upon, therefore, additional efforts will be required.  However, I will agree with Minister Nalbandian that there will be no need for many rounds.”
