Aram Sargsyan: ‘Yerevan – not same as used to be’

May 04,2017 20:38

Aram Sargsyan, a member of parliament of “Yelq” alliance in an interview to Aravot.am told that during the campaign they rarely meet people who praise the work of current Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan. According to him, if the mayor has worked hard, the number of those people would be much bigger: “The resident showed us that garbage which has been scattered for 15 years. But Taron Margaryan did not scatter that garbage. They had scattered it. This is a two-sided question, but we should start from the municipality. If the municipality does not clean, the resident sees that it is not clean and scatters.”

Aram Sargsyan brought the example of Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh, which is cleaner than Yerevan: “There they do not scatter, as they clean the city every morning and evening, of course, the volumes are different, but they often clean. Nobody scatters the garbage, as everyone knows that their city is cleaner than Yerevan, and they want to maintain it, and they are proud of it. Yerevan should do something. Taron Margaryan should have done something. These years gave him an opportunity, the city budget has grown fantastically, it has big opportunities. The Yerevan is not the same as it used to be – in Robert Kocharyan words, sitting on the money thinking about money. They sell land at fantastic prices to developers who build elite buildings. The city has a big budget, but what has been done is too little.”
