Nikol Pashinyan: Paralyzing Eurasian Economic Union not our goal, on contrary…

July 26,2018 13:36

I am leaving for St. Petersburg to attend the Intergovernmental Council session of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

As it is known, due to the status acquired after the constitutional amendments, the Prime Minister of Armenia is involved in the EAEU Higher Economic Council, in the heads of states format. This issue has also been resolved de jure, that is, Armenia will continue to be represented by the Prime Minister.

However, the legal regulations of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council have not yet been aligned with the new text of the Armenian Constitution, and the format would be paralyzed if I did not take part in the session since no decision could be made.

As back in velvet revolution days I have stated paralyzing the EAEU is not our goal, on the contrary, we have to do our best to make our membership more effective, thus I have made a decision to leave for St. Petersburg.
