On 27 September, the EU–Armenia Strategic Policy Dialogue workshop on Armenia’s Justice Reform Strategy was launched in the country’s capital of Yerevan. EU Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Vassilis Maragos, the Head of the European Commission’s DG NEAR Unit responsible for Armenia, and the Armenian Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan were all present at the launch.
Representatives from the country’s Supreme Judicial Council, Chamber of Advocates, Academy of Justice and civil society organisations also joined in the event.
The dialogue is taking place in the context of the elaboration of the 2018–2023 Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms and Action Plan prepared by Armenia’s Ministry of Justice. The adoption of the Strategy and Action Plan is expected by the end of 2018.
Ambassador Świtalski reiterated that the EU stands ready to support the full commitment of Armenia’s Government to implement reforms in the justice sector and in the fight against corruption. Vassilis Maragos underlined that the policy dialogue on Justice Sector Reforms will facilitate the implementation of the Action Plan for reform in Armenia, as well as steering future decisions on EU support to the sector.
