Vahe Berberian speaks about Amulsar

November 02,2018 13:49

Famous artists continue to express their support for Amulsar. Lebanese-Armenian, American-Armenian playwright, artist, writer, and comedian Vahe Berberian joined the #SaveAmulsar campaign after Serj Tankian and Arto Tuncboyaciyan did.

He said in his support video:

“I firmly believe that our motherland is a collective, physical body, and just as we do our best to stay healthy by consuming the right foods and staying away from toxins that are harmful to our body, we should do everything in our power to keep our country healthy and safe. All the explorations and demining that Armenia has gone through and is going through as we speak will achieve only one thing: to make some transnational corporation richer while causing the environment havoc by poisoning our rivers and lands and making our countrymen sick. These countrymen are our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters, and none of us should sit idle and let this happen. The Amulsar mine is one of the biggest mines in operation seen in Armenia, and even though the construction of this site is almost finished, the actual mining has not yet begun because of strong reactions from the locals and the environmental groups. Amulsar is significant because once the mine starts to operate, it will cause irreparable damage to the rivers and land surrounding it, not to mention the damage that it will cause to the health of the local population because of all the toxic waste it will produce. As I said, our homeland is our collective, physical body, and just as we don’t want our bodies to be probed, tortured, and abused, we don’t want our lands to be subjugated to all kinds of toxins. Believe me, no economic gain is worth it. Allowing it to happen is like putting your kidneys on sale. Think about it. Would you do it?”

The #SaveAmulsar campaign continues. Famous people can join the campaign by filming their videos of support and publishing them online.
