“It is too early to tell whether or not Armenians will return to Syria, since the end of the conflict is not in sight. It seems that the fight against the Islamic State is ending, but other conflicts continue, such as the Turkish-Kurdish conflict and the Russian-American conflict, and everything is becoming chaotic once again,” Turkish-Kurdish conflict expert Karen Hovhannisyan told reporters during a press conference.
Regarding one of the latest announcements from Syrian authorities that the Der-Zor Armenian church will be reconstructed, the expert said, “I simply think that was a gesture to instill hope.”
According to Karen Hovhannisyan, “We can say that everything is beginning once again in Syria. We should not think about returning, but instead, the opposite: how we can safely bring our compatriots here.”
