The real virus and people’s folklore

February 25,2020 19:06

People always become sick with the flu all across the world. This illness and several others tend to have complications, and sometimes people who have other health issues or poor immune systems die. According to the World Health Organization’s data, approximately 650,000 people die each year from complications due to the flu. People tend to not pay attention to this sad fact; it seems like that’s what is supposed to happen. But when the flu gets a fearsome name, such as the swine flu, bird flu, or the coronavirus, people begin to panic and they start to spread conspiracy theories.

Of course, doctors are right when they say that people sick with the flu need to be quarantined, that they shouldn’t try to self-medicate, that they especially shouldn’t take antibiotics without consulting a doctor, that they need to go to the doctor when they have a fever, etc. But this is not only the case for the coronavirus. This is what civilized people should do when any virus is spreading.

By the way, there aren’t many secrets involved in preventing the spread of the flu and other illnesses. It is important to be healthy, physically active, spend time in the fresh air, air out the rooms of your home, and more. The state is also responsible for carrying out initiatives to prevent the spread of viruses because it’s impossible for no one to get sick; sporadic cases are even known to take place in the most developed countries. The issue at hand is to prevent the virus from spreading even further, but to do so, it is necessary that residents have some level of civility and that the state does its part.

The rest is simply folklore. Do you remember when rumors spread that the Kremlin used “geological weapons” against Armenia in the aftermath of the Spitak earthquake? Sometimes, it is possible to find articles online from time to time even now that “prove” this absurdity. People are also spreading similar fallacies about the coronavirus. If people are always trying to see the bad in everything, then it’s even possible for rain and snow to be considered some type of weapons.

… Recently, someone was explaining to me in all seriousness that the Turks are spreading the coronavirus through the water pipes.
