July 16,2020 20:30

The Aygepar, Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, Chinari, and Movses villages, as well as the city of Berd in the Tavush region, were the targets of continued shelling along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The governor of Tavush, Hayk Chobanyan, spoke about this at the Crisis Information Center during a briefing in Ijevan. He said that more than ten houses were damaged during the shellings, as well as other structures, the Aygepar preschool, and the water pipes in the Tavush region, which are currently being fixed.

“All of the city’s defense units have been mobilized since this morning to defend the residents’ security. We also announced that there would be internal mobilization. All residents were in their shelters and basements. There are no civilian casualties or wounded.”

The governor said that a committee was established that will evaluate the damages and, as the governor said, work to rebuild will begin. The people whose homes will be difficult to renovate will receive support from the government to build new homes. “I want to say this so that our citizens will be as calm and sure as possible: we will resolve the renovation issues as soon as possible.” Overall, according to Hayk Chobanyan, thirty homes were damaged and two houses will not be renovated. They will be rebuilt entirely.

The governor called upon the residents of Tavush to be careful because it is possible for the situation to change at any given moment. He called upon them to remain in their shelters if they do not have any immediate tasks to attend to. Hayk Chobanyan assured that there is no panic in any of the villages. “The situation is stable and under control.”

According to official statements, the Azerbaijani army violated the ceasefire on July 12th and began military operations along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. These were provocative operations. The Armenian army had four casualties and the Azerbaijani army had more than ten.

After some time of relative peace, the battles continued last night. Around 3:40 AM local time, the Armenian Armed Forces noticed movement along the Azerbaijani trenches. According to official information, the Armenian subdivisions were able to prevent the enemy’s attempt at infiltration by switching to an all-around approach. After an intense battle, the enemy was pushed back after suffering losses. Then, the Azerbaijani subdivisions began to shell the villages of Aygepar and Movses at 5:20 AM using mortars and a D-30 howitzer.
