“Azerbaijan is encouraging Turkey’s involvement. I believe that the authorities of Azerbaijan are trying to get Turkey involved in this conflict as much as possible because they have recognized the powerlessness of their own Armed Forces,” the head of the My Step faction, Lilit Makunts, said at a meeting with reporters at the Ararat press club while discussing the statements Turkey made that supported Azerbaijan’s military aggression against the Tavush region. “I do not believe that Turkey will take that step. Turkey will not become a side in the conflict and that has fundamental points,” Makunts asserted.
She mentioned the reasons behind this. “First and foremost, the world will consider it to be within the context of genocide if Turkey becomes a side in the conflict that involves Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia’s borders. Secondly, many countries have already recognized the Armenian Genocide, but Turkey is already a side in the conflicts in many regions. Therefore, many countries will not understand what Turkey is doing. Their main motive has to do with Azerbaijan’s propaganda that Armenia allegedly wants to destroy gas and oil pipelines.”
