Nineteen-year-old soldier Garnik Khlghatyan, who died during the fight against Azerbaijani aggression, was in his fourth year of study at the Kapan State Medical College. According to the college’s director, Araksya Sargsyan, Garnik was supposed to go to the army after he finished his education. “But he applied last December and was sent to the army as a volunteer. He said that he would go serve, and then would return to finish his last semester in order to take state exams. It was his fate. Maybe he felt that the Motherland would need him,” Mrs. Sargsyan said.
Garnik was his parents’ only child, and his mother was his caretaker. His parents had gotten divorced a long time ago. His mother was a nurse who had been working at the Jabrayil military base for a long time. Garnik was serving in Omar. “He explained that his mother was the one to awaken his love towards medicine. Garnik was ready to help anyone,” the college director said.
In honor of the soldier’s memory, the college organized a candle lighting ceremony on Monday. His professors and classmates spoke about their memories of Garnik.
