Three days ago, Azerbaijanis put up a sign in their language on their territory near the village of Chakaten in the Syunik Province. The highway, which is shown in the photo, is under the control of Azerbaijan according to demarcation efforts, but our vehicles still travel there to this day without having had any incidents.
A.M. (they did not wish to give their name) told Aravot Daily that Armenian border guards are on one side of the highway, and Azerbaijanis are on the other. The Russian peacekeepers are on one of the hills. “They are guarding it from above. They leave their positions several times a day to speak to our soldiers and Azerbaijanis,” they said.
According to A.M., when there aren’t any officers on the Azerbaijani side, their soldiers wave to cars passing by. “But one of our border guards said that a few Azeris were walking along the middle of the road. One of the passersby asked what they were doing there. They responded that it was their territory, so they can walk or lay down there if they want to,” A.M. said. The details of this incident reached the Russians, who warned the Azeris to “behave and avoid violating the procedure.”
A few days ago, as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border demarcation efforts, the Azeris removed the Armenian tricolor. As a result, a 30-meter Armenian flag was set up on the opposite hill at the initiative of the mayor of Kapan, Gevorg Parsyan.
