Yesterday, during Nikol Pashinyan’s interview with 1in.am, he spoke about the issue of prisoners of war. He said, “Unfortunately, Azerbaijan is trying to turn the issue of prisoners of war into a topic of speculation, which is inappropriate due to the simple fact that the November 9th agreement clearly mentions the obligation to return prisoners of war, hostages, and other detainees. By the way, I want to repeat myself since different interpretations have been made regarding the soldiers who were captured as a result of the same incident in Khtsaberd about whether they are prisoners of war or not. These comments are inappropriate because the November 9th agreement is not only about prisoners of war, but hostages, captives, and other detainees as well.”

According to the Prime Minister, intensive activities are being carried out in order for these issues to be resolved as quickly as possible.

The head of the Azatan community, Vardan Ikilikyan, told Aravot Daily in an interview about the Prime Minister’s interview, “None of us are losing hope. We hope they return soon. We are in constant contact with the relatives of prisoners of war and the Human Rights Defender. It is impossible to sit around and do nothing. On the day the prisoners of war were returned, I went to Yerevan with my son in hopes that some of the soldiers from our village who were captured would also be among them. We thought, God willing, some of our boys will also be among them, but no matter who returns, they are all ours. However, no one from our village was returned. Only one person from the Azatan community was returned, and five of them still remain in captivity.”

The head of the village also said that some of the prisoners of war were able to send letters to their family members at the mediation of the Red Cross.
