“They’ve started to manipulate the issue of prisoners of war in an interesting way; they always say, ‘If you say anything, that will prevent the prisoners of war from returning,’” the director of the International Center for Human Development, Tevan Poghosyan, said during a press conference at the Henaran press club.
He assured that the issue of prisoners of war will not be resolved on its own. “Either we will need to build up such a supply so that Azerbaijan will be forced to return the prisoners based on the all for all principle, or we will have to build such a global sanction field against Azerbaijan that will cause them to return these people in the face of these losses.”
Tevan Poghosyan reminded the audience that Aliyev is discussing capturing Yerevan and Zangezur, and continued, “He also wants to capture Yerevan. But until taking over Yerevan, Azerbaijan will push the issue of prisoners back and forth. We needed to control our roads in such a way that the Azerbaijanis wouldn’t have been able to have such a huge supply of prisoners. Just the opposite- we should have been able to take more prisoners than them. When we say anything, they say that there will be another war. Sorry, but did our war end? Do our current authorities believe that a peace agreement was made on November 9th? They’re the ones who say that this was a ceasefire agreement, right? If it is a ceasefire, it means the war is not over.”
Regarding the domestic political situation, Tevan Poghosyan said, “If the ruling power has a drop of consciousness or patriotism, the government will resign. Then, we will be able to develop a crisis resolution government team and try to overcome this crisis. After that, we will hold elections.”
