Gegharkunik governor explains what happened in Verin Shorzha

May 13,2021 22:30

“After changes took place at the border, there are locations where the opponent did not place its positions due to climatic conditions and rough terrain. Now, the weather conditions have changed, and the opponent is placing its positions there,” the governor of Gegharkunik, Gnel Sanosyan, said prior to the session of government in response to a question about the situation in Verin Shorzha.

According to the governor, Armenian border troops are ensuring that the opponent “does not advance past its positions.”

Sanosyan also said that the Armenian state border was maintained in this case, unlike in Syunik’s Sev Lich incident. There were simply one or two places on the slopes where there was a border that the Armenian side demanded they retreat from, which was implemented in time. He said, “There is no tension in that area, the situation is calm.”

When asked if residents can be calm, Gnel Sanosyan said that residents grow concerned over fake news, “I went to Verin Shorzha for a few hours yesterday. I was in the area where those activities were taking place. Our soldiers are there, and our maps are working… This is simply the same process that existed in November and December. Many people were there and saw everything. They are simply conducting the demarcation efforts.”

When asked about how people do not believe these explanations because fake news spread a lot during the 44-Day War, so how can they believe the governor, Gnel Sanosyan said that they can believe him by seeing what is taking place over the next few days. “They will see that there is nothing wrong.”

In response to questions about the Sotk gold mine, the governor said that the mine is operating, but around 280 employees were laid off.
