The former Speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan’s son, Arman Sahakyan, who was the former head of the Department of State Property Management, has gained the attention of the authorities due to tax evasion. The State Revenue Committee sent a case to the police on the grounds of Article 205, Part 1, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code, according to which Arman Sahakyan did not submit the annual income tax calculation to the tax authority and an investigation is underway in the SRC Investigation Department.
The photo shows the decision of the State Revenue Committee on July 10, 2020, to collect tax liabilities from Arman Sahakyan. According to the reference attached to the case, as of May 15th last year, Arman Sahakyan had unfulfilled tax liabilities of more than 12.5 million AMD, of which the debt was 9.8 million AMD and the fine was 2.7 million AMD.
The decision states that Arman Sahakyan was duly notified, but never came or provided any explanation for the debts. As for how Arman Sahakyan “evaded taxes,” according to the SRC document, he first made a real estate investment deal in the authorized capital of Baby’s Smile LLC and in the same year, stopped participating in the authorized capital. According to the Tax Code, if he had alienated his share, the proceeds from the alienation of the property would have been taxed. In other words, 20% income tax had to be paid from that transaction. However, Arman Sahakyan did not submit the annual income tax calculation for 2018 and did not pay the tax liability. As a result, 12.5 million AMD in debt accumulated, including penalties.
