The second president of the Republic of Armenia and the leader of the Armenia alliance, Robert Kocharyan, said at yesterday’s press conference, “Was it hard to guess that Iran is the only state that can take practical steps in addition to statements? During these 2 years, nothing was done in that direction. We should have conducted at least 2 military exercises with Iran in Syunik.
There should have been a contractual basis with Iran, and it would have been the biggest restraining circumstance for Azerbaijan. The question is that Iran is not a state that can be stopped by waving a finger if it pursues its national interest.” Is it possible to conduct military exercises with Iran? Is Iran interested in it? In a conversation with Aravot.am, in response to our question, political scientist Armen Vardanyan said, “According to my information, Armenia has proposed to conduct joint Iran-Armenia-Russia military exercises in Armenia.
The Iranian side agreed, the Russian side did not agree.” Why didn’t Russia agree? The political scientist said that it’s because Russia is even “jealous” in that regard. “They want Armenia to see only them as an ally.” To our other question, in that case, we would only conduct military exercises between Armenia and Iran if Iran agrees, Vardanyan answered: “It seems to me that Russia would be against it. Russia would not allow it.”
