Aram Hakobyan highlighted the need to strengthen the capacities of the World Heritage Centre

The Delegation of the Republic of Armenia is participating in the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

In his statement at the general debate, H.E. Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Delegate of Armenia to UNESCO, reiterated Armenia’s commitment, as a first-time Member of the Committee, to work with all stakeholders to further strengthen the implementation of the 1972 Convention.

Aram Hakobyan appreciated the efforts of the World Heritage Centre in supporting States Parties under-represented on the World Heritage List, and highlighted the need to strengthen the capacities of the Centre.

Referring to the COP17 of the Convention on Biological Diversity to be hosted by Armenia in October 2026, Aram Hakobyan commended the role of the Centre in advancing climate action and biodiversity preservation through strengthened links between protection of cultural and natural heritage and biodiversity conservation.
