From 19 to 29 July, the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee took place in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The delegation of Armenia, serving as a member of the Committee, was headed by Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO, and included representatives from the Ministries of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and of Environment, and national experts.
The delegation of Armenia participated in the discussions on a number of substantive agenda items, contributed to the inscription of new properties on the World Heritage List and to the adoption of decisions concerning the state of conservation reports.
As a result of the Session, 25 new cultural and natural properties were inscribed on the World Heritage List.
The Permanent Delegate of Armenia also participated in a side event dedicated to the Global Biodiversity Framework, presenting the priorities of Armenia’s Presidency of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, to be held in Yerevan in October.
At the conclusion of the Session, Armenia was elected Vice-Chair of the 49th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, to be held in Istanbul in June 2027.
