On 5 October, EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos held a guest lecture titled EU and Armenia Partnership – Closer than Ever: Strategic Agenda, Resilience, Reforms and Connectivity, followed by an academic and policy reflection by Ms. Sossi Tatikyan and a Q&A session with students.
Ambassador Maragos spoke about the state of play in EU-Armenia relations, the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia partnership which was signed in December 2025. The Ambassador focused on security cooperation, EU support to the country’s resilience, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the first ever EU-Armenia Summit held in May 2026 in Yerevan, where a Connectivity Partnership was signed. Ongoing infrastructure projects (with projected investments of €2.5 billion) will be complemented by new investments based on the Crossroads of Peace (for which feasibility studies have been launched). EU support to governance and democratic reform, and to fulfil the benchmarks of the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan was also underlined.
The Ambassador highlighted EU’s support for economic and trade diversification, gave an overview of the trade support package, private sector reform and the Autonomous Trade Measures providing EU market access, removing tariffs on 80% of exports to the EU for the next two years. The Ambassador underscored the importance of working with CSOs, importance of independent media, and regional development in Armenia.
