Information was spread through mass media that a holding called PanArmenian Media had been established that included in particular Armenia, ArmNews and ATV TV channels.
Thus, although indirectly, actually the fact known for a long time that the above-mentioned TV companies are owned by the same person is verified.
In this regard Aravot applied to NCTR on January 16, asking to clarify whether they didn’t think such merger had violated Article 18 (Guarantee against Monopolies) of the TV and Radio Law of the Republic of Armenia, which provides for:
- Legal entities can have not more than one TV and one radio broadcasting company license.
- Individuals and persons related to them can become a founder and/or a shareholder of not more than two broadcasting entities (one TV and one radio company).
NCTR representatives responded today, “TV companies you have mentioned are independent legal entities and are not included in any holding.”
