The number of donkeys has increased in the region of Tavush for the past year. According to statistics, there were 1037 donkeys registered in the region at the beginning of last year and now there are 1059 donkeys. In the border village of Berdavan, the number of donkeys has increased by 11 for the past year; there are 24 donkeys in Berdavan now. 5-6 years ago, they started to refit cars, in order that they could be filled with gasoline. They moved cargo by cars and donkeys became useless.
Representatives of the Yerevan Zoological Park bought herds of donkeys from there to feed wild animals. Donkey owners protested against the fact that their animals were bought wholesale, furthermore, in exchange for goods – a 25kg sack of flour in exchange for one donkey.
An increase in natural gas prices made people rely on donkeys again.
