The National Commission on TV and Radio (NCTR) Didn’t Ban Showing Shushan Petrosyan

March 31,2012 13:35

Today Armen Mkrtchyan, a member of the National Commission on TV and Radio, talking about the news spread in the press that the NCTR had banned showing Shushan Petrosyan, as she had been included in the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) list, said during a Seminar called Reporting on Electoral Processes in Armenia held in Aghveran that there had been no ban, since they didn’t have such an authority. According to Armen Mkrtchyan, the NCTR just warned TV companies that they would perceive any candidate’s appearance on the screen as propaganda.

According to him, movies, which will contain positive or negative mention of candidates, will be perceived as propaganda – e.g., they will perceive movies cursing Communists as anti-propaganda.

The member of the NCTR clarified that even if during a quiz conducted by TV companies, one of the respondents was with a party badge, it would also be perceived as propaganda.
