The eighth Warsaw Cross-Culture Festival is underway in Warsaw today, showcasing some of the best world music and ethnic acts from across the globe.
This year’s roster includes musicians from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the Ivory Coast.

Some of the highlights include Sufi singer Raza Khan, “an excellent improviser with an unparalleled voice range,” as the festival organizers state. Another must-see performance is that of Titi Robin, a French composer drawing from a variety of musical traditions, including North African, Mediterranean and Roma gypsy.

The programme also includes a series of film screenings showcasing documentaries cherry-picked by the organizers behind the acclaimed Platene Doc Review.

Alongside concerts, film showings and exhibitions, spectators also have the opportunity to attend master-class workshops in Korean singing, Indian violin, or stage expression – all run by top-shelf musicians from Asia and Africa.

One of the largest events of its kind in Poland, the festival was first launched in 2005 and has since featured 150 artists and groups from over 50 countries.

The event, run by the municipal cultural institution Stołeczna Estrada, will be taking place until 29 September.
