“Dear Colleagues, It Is Impermissible, There Is a Limit to Everything, Whom Do You Want to Fool?” Khorov Harutyunyan Tells the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP)

October 18,2012 15:45

“The PAP is not a mature party yet and I wouldn’t like to see splits there. The PAP criticizes all Cabinets since 2008, but according to the reports of the Control Chamber, the most corrupted and failed ministries were theirs – Ministries of Urban Development, Healthcare and Social Affairs. All three of them were people of the PAP,” Khosrov Harutyunyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am about the statement of Naira Zohrabyan, the secretary of the PAP parliamentary group, that if they had participated in the vote on the budget implementation, they would have necessarily voted against.

He appealed to the PAP, “Dear colleagues, it is impermissible; there is a limit to everything. We can understand that Oskanian has criticized, Oskanian was not in it, but you have joined his criticism. Whom do you want to fool? How can you talk about a failed economic policy, about responsibility, if the pivotal figures were yours? It is incomprehensible for me. Generally, the PAP rushed to make a political statement stating that what had been started against Oskanian was also political persecution of the party. It was an impermissible formula. Can you imagine persecution of a party with an electorate consisting of 500 thousand people? It testifies to the fact that you have nothing to do with your electorate. It is a sign of weakness. It has turned out that you haven’t thought through that position of an alternative, that political stance. They have treated the political capital quite negligently. No worries, if the party finds the potential, it can get out of those troubles healthier. One should have a sense of political responsibility for that.”

Regarding the upcoming presidential election, we inquired what potential the Armenian National Congress (ANC) had to win, in his opinion. According to Khosrov Harutyunyan, there are no chances at all and he is not the only one who thinks so. In response to our question why it was so, whether Levon Ter-Petrossian didn’t have enough charisma, as the Heritage party had said, he said, “Charisma is very important for a candidate for the President of the Republic of Armenia, but it is not the only thing required. The President of the Republic of Armenia is not elected only for that. There is a thing called political biography. No one suffers from amnesia in our country. Everyone remembers everything. Everyone knows who did what and what it could have cost. One cannot deceive the people. It is a different matter that they can stand out against the background of others; that is it.

Moreover, for a short period of time, but not for a long time. Every political stance should first of all be morally justified. If it is not so, standing, long-term success is not possible.”
