“I don’t think that the Armenian National Congress will cut a deal with the Republican Party of Armenia (ANC) behind our back. The ANC will never make a criminal agreement. There may be an agreement, but I don’t believe secret agreements,” Alla Hovhannisyan, the mother of Tigran Khachatryan, one of the victims of March 1, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am.
Let us remind that at the meeting of the state and legal affairs standing commission of the National Assembly yesterday, the ruling majority and the Armenian National Congress
reached an agreement to postpone the establishment of a new parliamentary commission on March 1 for up to 1 year. Representatives of the ruling party think that it will prevent politicizing the issue. And the ANC believes the promise of the Republican Party and the Rule of Law Party (RLP) that the majority will vote in favor of establishing a new commission, if the discussion on the issue is postponed. After the commission’s meeting yesterday, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) figures expressed doubt about the optimism of the ANC. Alla Hovhannisyan also has certain doubts about the optimism of the ANC: “If I were them, I wouldn’t agree, I would say ‘Let there be a vote,’ even if the Republican Party and the RLP would vote against, because I am convinced that they will vote against in one year, anyway.” Ms. Hovhannisyan thinks that perhaps, Gagik Jhangiryan who made the proposal thought that it was better to have some hope now than to have nothing at all. However, she doesn’t think so: “I think that they should have forced them to put it to a vote, because I am against pinning any hope on the government regarding any issue, particularly given the fact that Hovhannes Sahakyan told Radio Liberty that five years had passed and nothing could be revealed. Now do they give another year so he can say six years have passed? I think they shouldn’t have agreed.”
