“Of course it was unacceptable in terms of the interests of the Armenian side. Although there is no legal clause in the Armenian-Russian relations, under which Russia would be forced to sell weapons to the opponent. But, in my opinion, this is more an issue of moral aspect”, – said the politician Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan in a conversation to Aravot.am commenting on the interview with the Deputy Prime Minister of NKR Arthur Aghabekyan saying that selling weapons to Azerbaijan by RF was a treacherous deal. According to him, this transaction for Armenia could have serious consequences, as the destabilization of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, especially the resumption of war will also refer to and spread across the Caucasus, including the North Caucasus.

“In terms of political calculations, Russia has made a serious mistake not only in regard Armenian allies, but also in terms of their own safety and regional security.” To the observation that furnishing with new arms brings new aggression, Melik-Shahnazaryan replied,- “In all cases, it prepares the parties ready for war. The Armenian side has done its best to maintain the security of the region, and the security is maintained not due to the political statements of countries, but the readiness of our armed forces. It could become a serious threat to the security of the country, in addition, any furnishing with arms by Azerbaijan, unfortunately, can stimulate the arms race in the region.”
