PAP MP. “Tomorrow they will insist on positioning a border beyond Goris.”

August 13,2014 12:08

“Russia always needs Armenia, as well as to any other country. Simply, our relationship is with Russia, we have a strategic agreement with Russia, which is very important, and our authorities sometimes forget about this agreement”, so responded NA PAP faction MP Stepan Margaryan, in response to the question of Aravot.am about the fact that the process of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union has been accelerated, so whether it does not mean that Russia again wants to use Armenia. Recall that a few days ago, Russia’s Government session agenda included a proposal to Russian President Vladimir Putin to sign the agreement of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty.

According to PAP MP, the haste is coming from Armenia. He recalled, “First, they were saying, come on September 3, then did not happen, then come on September 15. And they agreed on the date.” To our observation that the process of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) was slowed down for a moment, so why it suddenly took a new momentum now, Mr. Margaryan responded, “As far as I know, there is no public document. When we announced on September 3 that we are joining the Customs Union, at that time nothing was known, anyway, we announced that they are joining. Now there are some things.”

To our question that if the document will be presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but still complex issues related to installation of a Customs checkpoint on the border of Artsakh and the prices for a variety of products are not yet clarified, so whether there is no fear that we would be compelled to sign a document, which would define that Armenia is joining the Eurasian Economic Union on the condition of installing a Customs checkpoint on the border with Artsakh, Mr. Margaryan replied, “It’s another matter if the Artsakh issue were not emphasized, nobody would emphasize that Artsakh was going to join. But when they say that without it, it means that tomorrow they will insist on installing a border beyond Goris. Our custom border is it. I am worried about it. This is the question, during which we should have made a great resistance, but it did not happen. The statement was made yesterday that they have spoken of Artsakh, let’s see what comes next.”
