Human rights activist Arthur Sakunts does not exclude the possibility that the Armenian contractual soldier crossing the Azerbaijan border Andranik Grigoryan is kidnapped.
“If we take Hakob Injighulyan’s case into account, which in the beginning it was written that he had crossed the border, then it turned out that he was kidnapped, so the likelihood that he was kidnapped is great. Simply, it is still a question as to how it happened that the gun was not in the soldier’s hands, which means that it was the time for relaxation, during the non-combat duty performance. It also means that the Azerbaijanis are free to go in and out through the border that they are able to take people so easily. There should be an investigation and the citizens would be informed”, said human rights activist to Aravot.am.
It’s strange to him that on the same day a soldier voluntarily goes to Azerbaijan and another healthy soldier dies suddenly. “The chronological coincidence sounds strange to me, and as to how one relates to the other, it is difficult to say, but the point that we are having problems already with contracted soldiers, this is already concerning. It rather speaks of unsatisfactory conditions of the military service, when a person is forced to leave the main site of the military service and pass to the Azerbaijani side. Clearly, there are concerning circumstances about the conditions of the service, and I consider such coincidence unlikely.”
Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan excludes the hypothesis of Armenian soldier’s crossing the border because of poor conditions in the army. “Who speaks of such things? How many time has the human rights activist Arthur Sakunts entered the army to know about the conditions?”

Recall that on March 22, close to 13:50 pm, Andranik Ararati Grigoryan, a Defense Army ordinary contractual soldier born in 1991, leaving the weapons and ammunition in the combat line, has abandoned one of the combat sites of the unit deployed in the DA Eastern direction and has passed to the opponent’s side. Today, the Artsakh Defense Ministry considers the material disseminated by the Azerbaijani media pertaining to the DA serviceman passing to the opponent’s side on March 22 to be staged.
“First, let’s note that the moment of passing to the opponent’s side is fully staged and does not meet the reality. Thereby, the opponent tried to show that his staff has been in the place at the moment and was aware of the situation, but, as a rule, the opponent’s patrols were not in the post. Obviously, the video shows that the opponent had made an unsuccessful attempt to raise the role of their patrols. One more circumstance too. At that moment, the video recording in the front line would be impossible because our patrols would immediately shoot the doer of such an attempt. As for the interrogation, the video clearly shows that the serviceman was first subjected to violence by the opponent, the traces of which are presented as a reason for the latter’s abandoning the combat position and expresses primitively presented and ready ideas. It is also obvious that all of the thoughts and “information” expressed in the video by the Armenian serviceman are false, have nothing to do with reality and they were done under coercion,” mentioned the press release issued by the Defense Ministry.
