Naira Zohrabyan. “No policeman is granted the status of a Sultan to kiss his shoe.”

July 20,2016 09:30

“I felt a shock when reading Daniel’s statement. If all that is true, and I know Daniel and am sure he cannot divulge false information, then this is the greatest degree of disgracefulness,” said leader of the “Prosperous Armenia” political party Naira Zohrabyan in an interview with Aravot.am, referring to Director of the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO Daniel Ioannisyan’s statement today. Accordingly, in recent days, the detained activists are taken not to the police stations but to the RA police forces detachments.

Referring to David Sanasaryan and Andranik Aslanyan who were detained yesterday at the Liberty Square, Daniel Ioannisyan said, “David had been beaten so much that he had a concussion of the brain. In addition, as the guys told, they were exposed to humiliation and the police officers were forcing them to kiss the boots of the police, spitting at the guy, not to mention the swearing words and this happened all the way thru from Liberty Square to Davitashen administrative district.” Naira Zohrabyan opines that the RA Human Rights Defender should immediately deal with this case. Apropos, the HRD office has already issued a statement to apply to the SIS for Davit Sanasaryan and Vaghinak Shushanyan.

Regarding kissing the police shoes and spitting on the facts, there is nothing in the statement of HRD Office. “Urgent measures should be taken against the police officers who have allowed themselves such a disgracefulness. The police officer has no right to humiliate an RA citizen irrespective of whether he shares the political views of given citizen or not. The mission of the police officer is to maintain the rule and order enshrined by the law rather than beating an RA citizen, humiliating and forcing to kiss shoes,” – said Naira Zohrabyan, adding that all this should be immediately followed by the police response, “Armenia is not a sultanate. The RA law does not grant a status of a sultan to any police officer to kiss the shoes. Surprisingly, until this moment, there is no police response. If the statement does not meet the reality, then the police should be the first interested party quickly to deny such incident typical of serfdom society.”
