Head of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia, Hovhannes Martirosyan, held a meeting with a delegation led by Paul Hueper, Director of the Office of Energy Supply Chains at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources.
The meeting focused on opportunities to deepen and expand cooperation based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2026 between the Republic of Armenia and the United States on cooperation in the extraction, processing, and secure supply of critical minerals and rare earth elements.
The participants discussed opportunities for cooperation in the exchange of geological data and technical expertise, geological mapping using modern technologies, and the development of technical capacities. They also explored potential areas of cooperation related to the exploration, extraction, separation, and processing of Armenia’s mineral resources, as well as the implementation of mine-site rehabilitation programs. Particular attention was paid to developing processing capacities that generate added value.
The meeting also addressed the strengthening of the institutional framework for sectoral cooperation, expanding practical interaction among relevant government institutions, and exchanging international best practices and professional expertise.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants emphasized the importance of strengthening the resilience of regional and international supply chains and ensuring reliable access to critical minerals, reaffirming their readiness to continue dialogue and practical cooperation in this area.
