“According to the official data, about 900 Azerbaijani were involved in the Syrian conflict, but I think the number is much higher. Either Azerbaijani authorities do not have clear data or they avoid raising the real number. This fact is an obvious danger for the country”, told expert Armen Petrosyan in the interview with Aravot.am.
He noted that a lot of militants from our immediate neighboring countries fight in a number of groupings of the Middle East conflicts. “There are networks of extremist groupings that can activate in case of need”. The expert recalled, that last year, during the April War, a lot of militants who participated in the Middle East conflict, were involved in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. “It is not excluded that in case of the recurrence of the situation, the same tactics will be utilized by Azerbaijani authorities. It is a priority that should worry us.”
