On April 21, Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of Armenia, received Johannes van der Klaauw, Head of the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The interlocutors touched upon the efficient cooperation established between Armenia and the UNHCR. Within this context Johannes van der Klaauw expressed gratitude for the years-long support provided to the Office by the Government of Armenia.
The sides discussed in details the issues related to facilitation of integration process of more than 20 thousand Syrian refugees who found shelter in Armenia and support provided to them.
Johannes van der Klaauw noted that the United Nations and its specialised agencies highly value Armenia’s efforts aimed at addressing the problems faced by the refugees who found shelter in Armenia as the result of the Syrian crisis.
Edward Nalbandian emphasised that the Government of Armenia undertakes and will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure maximum favourable conditions for the refugees from Syria.
The guest noted with satisfaction that Armenia is an active member of Executive Committee of the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees and is engaged in productive activities within that platform.
Edward Nalbandian and Johannes van der Klaauw exchanged views on the ongoing processes in the Middle East, the issues related to migration flows they have resulted in and the efforts of the international community to address them.
