Yesterday I learned that an average level official has made a fuss at a parking lot the next day of achieving his “dream”, demanding to be provided with a parking place respective to his position. Once again, this proves the argument holding that people aspire to a position not only for money but also “pride and respect”, aspire to show off their even small authority with “the whole self”.
Meanwhile, it should be the opposite, as much the human is given to, as ordinary s/he should be, lesser s/he should show off and should do his/her job modestly. However, when we speak of material wealth and authority levers, people do not persist the temptation and wish to stand out by the luxury of their everyday life, shine with their stately character, and preach their deeds. In particular, it refers to PR, more correctly, its rough and old-fashioned perception.
If I was an official (which will never happen, naturally), I would apply to media the very first day of my appointment or election and say: “Dear colleagues, cover my activity as you wish – from the positive, negative, neutral perspective. If you think my meetings, sessions, speeches, consultations do not interest your consumer, do not cover them at all, and if you think they are interesting, dedicate a line to it, or a 4-page “lavash”, 5 or 10-minute reportage, if you find it appropriate. Inform about that event 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 days later, again proceeding from you interest of selling “news product”. (It is clear that we speak of not governmental media.) I would advise our oligarchs, the media under the rule of whose glorify the charity carried out by their “boss” immoderately, to do the same.
The same also in everyday life and ordinary communication: I am sure, to win public trust is possible through modesty, modest behavior. If thought deeper, it is not a job that difficult, which, nevertheless, requires certain “sacrifice”. However, to those very “sacrifices” our small and big officials are not ready. And it is natural as well: they become officials because of exactly being immoderate and immodest, do they not?
